Life & Skills

By Kashvi Jain

Life does not have to perfect, but to make it wonderful its important to have good life skills. Life skills are essential skills you must master in order to progress in life. This could be cooking, applying for jobs, communicating or even having good time management. The purpose of life skills is to enable us to deal with obstacles in life and in the future live a good, healthy life. Two main life skills that play a part in a good future is communication skills and positivity.

Talking to new friends, raising your hand in class, asking teachers questions may seem hard to you, but those are the basic skills of communication. Especially in school its super important that you don't let your shyness and quietness triumph your ability to communicate with others. First of all to build friendships, interpersonal skills are necessary. Making friends is very beneficial in high school to have fun, be positive, and have a good mental health otherwise school just becomes studying and working. As a personal experience, I actually see my friend randomly talking with new people whether in classes, the school lunch line, or even the girls bathroom, she tries to build new relationships. Second of all its especially important to communicate and talk with your teacher if you have any overwhelming questions because then only will you understand what you are learning and be able to have more confidence when taking tests and quizzes. Thirdly, in your future its important you are able to converse and make connections with others. In your workplace you may interact a lot with other people or even in grocery stores, concerts, and even parties. Communication is essential for these three reasons.

Positive Vibes Only. Positivity may not be considered a life skills, but here at Voiceopedia we believe this is very important. Caring for yourself and your mental health should always be top priority. A lot of times as school gets tougher, people lose track of themselves and tend to feel stress, depression, and loneliness. Which is why you should continue to do your hobbies, your passions, or anything that brings you enjoyment. Pearson tells us there are two D’s, delight and desire. Delight: something you find happiness and comfort in, this could range from doing a sport, listening to music, or even spending time with friends and family. Desire: never ignoring your desires. Always follow your heart. Think about it, what makes you delighted, happy, comforted?

Life skills only benefit your interpersonal skills and mental health. Without life skills, communication would be lowered to a minimum because of the virtual world and depression, suicide, anxiety, stress rates would rise. It is very necessary to remember to keep talking, keep being positive, and keep using life skills!!
